NEMA 14-50 Outlet Installation for EV Charging in Bakersfield

Want NEMA 14-50 outlet installation for EV charging in Bakersfield? We install NEMA 14-50 outlets on a dedicated 240 volt circuit sized for your charger and your panel, so you can plug in instead of hardwiring.

Licensed C-10 electrical contractor #1116554. Based at 6801 Weldon Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93308.

NEMA 14-50 outlet wired for EV charging in a Bakersfield garage

A NEMA 14-50 is the four prong 240 volt outlet many EV owners use for Level 2 charging at home. Plug-in chargers and some mobile connectors are made for it, and it is also the outlet many RVs use.

It sounds simple, but EV charging puts a heavy load on a circuit for hours at a time. That is exactly where cheap outlets, undersized wire, and loose terminals cause trouble. We install it the right way the first time.

What a proper 14-50 install includes

Every install starts with your panel. We check whether it has the room and capacity for a new 240 volt circuit, then plan the run to your garage, driveway, or carport.

  • A load check on your panel before we add the circuit
  • Wire and breaker sized for the charger you plan to use
  • A heavy duty, industrial grade receptacle built for long charging sessions
  • GFCI protection where code requires it
  • Permit and inspection when the job calls for it

Outlet or hardwired charger?

An outlet gives you flexibility. You can unplug the charger, take it with you when you move, or use the same outlet for an RV. A hardwired wall charger can often charge faster on a larger circuit and has fewer connection points to wear out.

Neither one is right for everyone. We will ask what car you drive, how far you commute, and what charger you have, then recommend the setup that fits. If hardwiring makes more sense, our EV charger installation team handles that too, including Tesla Wall Connectors.

What if my panel is full?

Many Bakersfield homes have panels that are already near their limit, especially with central AC running much of the year. If yours is, we will lay out the options: load management, a subpanel, or a panel upgrade. You get the facts and make the decision.

Garages, carports, and outdoor outlets

We install 14-50 outlets inside garages, on exterior walls, and on posts near the driveway. Outdoor outlets get a weatherproof in-use cover so the charger can stay plugged in safely.

NEMA 14-50 outlet installation questions

What size breaker does a NEMA 14-50 outlet need?

The outlet is rated for a 50 amp circuit, but the right breaker and wire depend on your charger and how it is set. We size the circuit to match your equipment and the electrical code.

Can I use a dryer outlet for my EV?

Dryer outlets are a different style and are usually on a smaller circuit. Swapping the outlet without checking the wire and breaker is not safe. We can tell you what your existing circuit can handle.

Do I need a permit?

New 240 volt circuits usually require one. When the job needs a permit, we pull it and schedule the inspection.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Electrical ASAP is a licensed C-10 electrical contractor (#1116554) and insured for residential and commercial work. If a property manager or HOA needs paperwork, just ask.

Do you give free estimates?

Free estimates are available for most planned installs and upgrades. Troubleshooting and diagnostic visits carry a service fee that covers the first hour of labor, including diagnosis. We confirm what is included before we schedule.
