Security system wiring in Bakersfield
Pricing and availability updated for April 2026
A security camera or doorbell is only as good as the wiring and power behind it. Weak Wi-Fi, the wrong transformer, or a missing outlet is why a $300 doorbell ends up offline at the worst moment. We install doorbells, cameras, and the electrical infrastructure that supports them across Bakersfield and Kern County—wired, hybrid, or full hardwired NVR setups. Give us a call.

Typical costs to install security cameras and doorbells
Doorbell or single camera install
Starting at $185+
Existing doorbell wiring or accessible exterior outlet, basic Wi-Fi.
Multi-camera or wired security system
Varies
Additional cameras, ethernet runs, NVR setup, or new exterior outlets add more work.
Most smart doorbell installs start around $185+. Multi-camera setups, ethernet runs, NVR installs, or new exterior outlets all change the price. For a hardwired camera the right answer is usually a dedicated exterior outlet we run for it.
3 Factors That Affect Your Final Cost
- Power source: existing doorbell transformer/outlet vs new exterior outlet or transformer upgrade
- Wire run: surface-mount vs wire-fishing through walls, attic, or exterior conduit
- Camera count: a single doorbell vs a 4–8 camera NVR setup with ethernet runs to each location
Why Homeowners Choose Electrical ASAP
A camera that goes offline when you need it is worse than no camera. We install the boring parts—power, wiring, mounting—the way they need to be done so the smart parts actually work.
-
Right power for the device
Transformer-matched doorbells, dedicated outlets for cameras, PoE where it makes sense. No more "low voltage" warnings.
-
Concealed where possible
We fish wire through walls and attics so cameras look mounted on purpose—not stuck on with surface-run cable.
-
Licensed & insured
Electrical ASAP is licensed and insured (CA C-10 #1116554).

Quick answers to the questions we hear most—each one links to a full guide.
Why does my smart doorbell keep going offline?
Two main causes: weak Wi-Fi at the door, or the existing transformer is too small for a smart doorbell. Smart doorbells need 16–24V at 30VA—older systems often only deliver 8–12V at 10VA. We upgrade the transformer or run a new circuit.

Wired vs Wi-Fi cameras — which should I choose?
Wi-Fi battery cameras are easy to install but can drop offline and run out of charge. Wired (PoE or hardwired) cameras stay online 24/7 and don’t need recharging. For critical coverage, wired wins. We do both.

Where should I mount cameras for the best coverage?
Front door, driveway, side gates, and back yard angles are the high-value spots. Mount 8–10 feet up, angled down, and avoid pointing into bright sun. We walk the property and recommend placement before we run any wire.

| Feature | Working with Electrical ASAP | Handyman / DIY |
|---|---|---|
| Power | Transformer matched to doorbell spec, dedicated outlet for cameras | Old undersized transformer—doorbell drops offline regularly |
| Wiring | Concealed through walls/attic where possible, weather-sealed exterior | Cable surface-run on exterior—looks bad and degrades in the sun |
| Mounting | Solid mounts at the right height and angle for coverage | Cameras pointed at the wrong angles, mounted into hollow drywall |
| Verification | Verified online, app-tested, and walked through with you | "Should work" without a real test before we leave |
| Liability | Fully Licensed & Insured (CA C-10 #1116554) | Liability sits on you if exterior wiring fails |
FAQ
Security system questions
How much does it cost to install a smart doorbell?
A basic doorbell install with an existing transformer starts around $185+. Transformer upgrades, new wiring, or wire-fishing change the price.
Do I need a new transformer for my Ring or Nest doorbell?
Often yes. Smart doorbells need 16–24V at 30VA. Older homes often have 8–12V transformers that can’t keep up—you get "low voltage" warnings or offline drops.
Can you run ethernet for hardwired cameras?
Yes—we run Cat6 or better through walls and attic spaces, terminate properly, and test each run. PoE cameras get clean, reliable power and data on one cable.
Will my cameras work if Wi-Fi goes out?
Wi-Fi cameras: no. Hardwired NVR setups with local recording: yes—they keep recording even if internet goes down. We can install either, depending on what you need.
Do you install ADT, Vivint, or other monitored systems?
We don’t install or monitor third-party alarm services, but we do all the supporting electrical: dedicated outlets, transformers, cameras, doorbells, ethernet runs, and exterior power.
