What a GFCI does
A ground-fault circuit interrupter watches for current leaking somewhere it should not - like through water or a person. When it detects that imbalance, it trips fast. That is why GFCIs are required in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, exteriors, and other damp or accessible locations today.
Outlets vs breakers
Protection can live in a receptacle, the first outlet in a chain, or a GFCI breaker in the panel. The right approach depends on your wiring layout, age of the home, and what you are remodeling. We test downstream protection so you are not creating a false sense of safety.
When to call an electrician
Call if outlets near water are not protected, if a GFCI will not reset, or if you are renovating a kitchen or bath. We can map what you have, bring critical areas up to modern expectations, and document work for inspectors or buyers.
